Strategic Training Initiatives in Health Research (STIHR)

IMHA operates five strategic training programs in co-operation with existing undergraduate and graduate programs across the country. The programs, now in their third year of operation, are designed to recruit elite scholars, the heroes of tomorrow, into transdisciplinary research in musculoskeletal health. The programs span a diversity of approaches ranging from mentoring, to workshop and conference participation, to direct involvement in research projects. Each program has funding for five years, during which time program directors are expected to optimize their operating funds by establishing partnerships with academia and industry. The programs are:

Alberta Provincial CIHR Training Program in Bone and Joint Health
University of Calgary, University of Alberta
Program focus: osteoarthritis, common spinal disorders and joint injuries

Cell Signaling in Mucosal Inflammation & Pain
Toronto, Dalhousie, Ottawa, McMaster, and UBC
Program focus: cellular communication

MENTOR: Mobility and Posture Difficulties
L'Université de Montréal, l'École Polytechnique, l'École de technologie supérieure
Program focus: osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal deformity and trauma or neuromuscular deficits

NORTH Network for Oral Research Training and Health
All 10 Canadian dentistry schools
Program focus: academic dentistry

The Centre for Bone and Periodontal Research: Skeletal Health Research
McGill University
