Since its creation three years ago, CIHR has taken the first steps needed to build an energized and innovative health research enterprise for the 21st century. CIHR is now developing a strategic plan that will guide it through its next stage of evolution.
The draft plan titled, Investing In Canada's Future: CIHR's Blueprint For Health Research And Innovation articulates CIHR's vision, mandate, strategic outcomes and objectives. The foundation of Blueprint 2007 is the extensive work done by CIHR's 13 Institutes in developing their individual strategic plans, including wide-ranging consultations with a variety of partners and the research community to identify their individual research priorities and develop a national health research agenda.
To ensure that Blueprint 2007 reflects the views and needs of its stakeholders, CIHR has launched a three-pronged national consultative process throughout the summer which includes: regional town hall meetings; direct input from stakeholder groups and individuals; and a web-based survey.
I encourage you to review Blueprint 2007 and to provide your comments through CIHR's web-based survey. As members of Canada's health research community, your contributions are key to making this process a success. Following the consultation process, the strategic plan will be revised and submitted for approval by CIHR's Governing Council in late August.
I thank you in advance for your contribution and look forward to sharing with you CIHR's strategic plan.
