1. IAB Terms of Reference
The terms of reference for Institute Advisory Boards were reviewed by the Nominating Committee. An inaugural term for IAB members of two or three years was suggested, as were changes to the mandate of the IABs which would reflect a closer alignment to the objectives of CIHR. The modified terms of reference will be submitted to the Governing Council for their review and approval.
2. IAB Membership Slates
The Nominating Committee reviewed a final draft of the IAB slates and determined that they were ready to be submitted to the Governing Council for review and approval. The Nominating Committee expressed its satisfaction that the IAB slates were well-balanced and were composed of quality people, capable of providing the transformational mix and capacity desired by the Governing Council. In order to re-assure the Governing Council that the Nominating Committee had fully discharged its oversight duties, the Nominating Committee's report will include the following
affirmation of a selection process reflective of due diligence, integrity and transparency as well as adherence to the CIHR legislation;
continuous interaction between Nominating Committee, Governing Council members, Scientific Directors and CIHR President with respect to proposed members and IAB chairs;
examination of numerous iterations of the IAB slates to ensure there was appropriate balance across all thirteen Institutes with respect to gender, language, geography, university, research expertise, and representation from all of CIHR's stakeholders.
