The IG will provide partial support for workshops and scientific symposia held in Canada, which fall under the IG mandate.
In addition to the required relevance to the IG mandate, the IG encourages applications in the current IG Research Priority Themes listed below, but workshops and symposia need not be restricted to these areas:
A workshop is defined as a consultative meeting of individually invited persons to address specific questions or problems relevant to the IG mandate, with the purpose of reaching a consensus on recommendations or conclusions leading to an improved focus on research issues. In most circumstances, the majority of participants should hold appointments in Canada.
A scientific symposium, in contrast, is open to all interested Canadian investigators and is not restricted to participants from a particular geographic region or professional society. The subject matter should be important to a significant number of Canadian investigators and have clear relevance to health research.
The IG will normally contribute $5,000 to $10,000 towards the funding of an Institute-approved workshop or symposium held in Canada. These workshops and symposia should focus on special initiatives, which will give new strategies for future research in Canada. The funding is intended for a single event only, and will not imply repeated funding for annual events. Workshops and symposia held outside of Canada and / or exceeding $25,000 will be considered for funding only under special circumstances.
Events previously supported by the IG are indicated at IG events of interest.
The IG will render its decision within 60 days after receiving the application. Funding is at the discretion of the IG. Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
Local meetings, in general, are not encouraged (e.g. those workshops or symposia limited to an audience from a single city or single institution).
