The HFSP supports novel, innovative and interdisciplinary basic research focused on the complex mechanisms of living organisms; topics range from molecular and cellular approaches to systems and cognitive neuroscience. A clear emphasis is placed on novel collaborations that bring biologists together with scientists from fields such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science and engineering to focus on problems at the frontier of the life sciences.
Scientific Programs
Research Grants are awarded for novel collaborations involving extensive
collaboration among teams of scientists working in different countries and
in different disciplines. Two types of grants are available:
Young Investigator Grants and Program Grants.
The 2008 call for Letters of Intent is now open.
Pre-registration March 22nd, Submission deadline April 3rd 2007.
more details Current guidelines and application procedures
Postdoctoral Fellowships are available for scientists who wish to work in foreign laboratories, with emphasis on individuals early in their careers who wish to obtain training in a different field of research. Fellows who return to their home countries are eligible to apply for a Career Development Award.
Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships:
Cross-disciplinary fellowships are intended for postdoctoral fellows with a Ph.D.
degree in the physical sciences, chemistry, mathematics, engineering and computer sciences
who wish to receive training in biology.
Application guidelines for award year 2007,
pre-registration and electronic application forms are available on our website.
The next deadline for our long-term and cross-disciplinary fellowship program is 31 August 2006.

THE HUMAN FRONTIER SCIENCE PROGRAM ORGANIZATION IS PLEASED TO WELCOME INDIA AS A NEW CONTRIBUTING COUNTRY. Scientists from India will be able to take part fully as Principal Investigators in the next round of grant applications with a deadline in March 2007. See Press Release
ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF THE HFSP JOURNAL: The HFSP Journal aims to foster communication between scientists publishing high quality, innovative interdisciplinary research at the interface between biology and the physical sciences. The journal is now receiving manuscripts. See the HFSP Journal web site for information about the goals of the journal, the Editorial Board, the call for papers and guidelines for authors.
HFSPO congratulates Roger Kornberg on the award of the 2006 Nobel Prize for Chemistry . Dr. Kornberg was an awardee in the very first round of HFSP awards in 1990 and in all has participated in 4 international grant teams and hosted three HFSP fellows. We are delighted that this award has been given to such an outstanding scientist who is so actively engaging in international collaborations.
