The Canadian Prostate Cancer Research Initiative (CPCRI) is a not-for-profit partnership of organizations committed to reducing the burden of prostate cancer.

CPCRI contributes to the fight against prostate cancer by facilitating innovative research in the areas of prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and palliation for people impacted by prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is a critical health issue for Canadian men and their families.

Fast Facts about Prostate Cancer

Did you know that:

  • In 2006, an estimated 20,700 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in Canada,
  • One in seven Canadian men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, and one in 26 will die from the cancer,
  • Prostate cancer is the leading form of cancer diagnosed in Canadian men,
  • The risk of developing prostate cancer increases with a man’s age,
  • Many men with early prostate cancer have no symptoms,
  • Prostate cancer receives significantly less public attention and funding for research than many other forms of cancer in Canada, despite being the third highest cause of cancer mortality.

What is a prostate?

The Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta and Northwest Territories Division hit the streets to find out what men know about prostate health.  The resulting video has been posted on YouTube for Prostate Cancer Awareness Week.  Click here to link to the Video!

 

ANNOUNCEMENT - Pathology and Imaging Workshop

CPCRI is pleased to announce plans to host its fifth strategic workshop on Pathology and Imaging in prostate cancer.  Being held at The Kingsbridge Conference Centre north of Toronto January 30-31, 2009, the workshop agenda will focus on imaging advances and their benefits in the field of pathology.  A draft agenda will be posted shortly. 

 

Beyond Diagnosis II Workshop a success!

Beyond Diagnosis II: A deeper look at health services, quality of life and psychosocial issues was held June 11-13, 2008 in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Attended by over 40 researchers from Canada and the United States the workshop provided an opportunity for researchers and community members to discuss new and emerging opportunities and devleop a coordinated research agenda moving forward.  Outcomes will be posted shortly.
