What's New - National Network for Aboriginal Mental Health Research

The Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health and the Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction are pleased to announce joint support for the creation of the National Network for Aboriginal Mental Health Research (NNAMHR) under the leadership of Dr. Laurence J. Kirmayer at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. The NNAMHR will receive support from CIHR over a 4-year period, at approximately $170,000 per year, to conduct research in partnership with Aboriginal communities and academic researchers. The overall focus of the network will be on developing research capacity to address the pressing mental health needs and concerns of Aboriginal people in rural and urban settings. The Network will train new researchers to develop capacity in the area of Aboriginal mental health research. It will also provide research consultation services for and in collaboration with Aboriginal communities. The team consist of researchers from many Canadian universities including Alberta, British Columbia, McGill, McMaster, Memorial, Saskatchewan, Simon Fraser, St. Mary's, Victoria, Windsor and York.
