Message from the Prime Minister the Right Honourable Stephen Harper

Canadian Health Research Awards - A Celebration of Excellence

Greetings from the Prime Minister

The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister
The Right Honourable Stephen Harper
Prime Minister

November 22, 2006

On behalf of Canada's New Government, I am pleased to offer my congratulations to all those being honoured tonight for their contributions to health research and to improving the lives of Canadians.

Our government is committed to supporting health research. It not only contributes to our individual well-being, but also to the economic health of our country. The work being done by researchers across this country is enhancing Canada's reputation internationally.

Over the last six years the Canadian Institutes of Health Research has transformed how health research is conducted in Canada. The energy and commitment of Canada's health researchers is now supported by a strong foundation of higher funding and innovative programs that will lead to new knowledge and new strategies to improve the health of Canadians and of people everywhere.

Please accept my warmest regards and best wishes for a memorable celebration.

The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada
