Student and Post Doctoral Fellow Travel Awards

North American Association for the Study of Obesity
October 15-19, 2005 Vancouver, BC

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD) is launching a competition for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to encourage attendance at the annual meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO) to be held on October 15-18, 2005, in Vancouver, BC.

The maximum amount for a single award is $1,500.00 (to cover travel costs, accommodation expenses and registration fees). Up to 5 awards will be available. The application deadline is September 1, 2005; decisions will be announced September 12, 2005.

Application should include:

  1. A cover letter with a summary of your present research and an explanation of how attending the NAASO annual meeting will benefit your career (2 page maximum).
  2. Confirmation of status as a full-time Masters or PhD student or as a post-doctoral fellow at a recognized Canadian academic institution.
  3. A copy of your Curriculum Vitae.
  4. A letter of support from your supervisor.
  5. Proposed travel itinerary and budget (indicate if other travel fund are available)
  6. A copy of the abstract submitted to NAASO (if applicable). Note that preference will be given to those who have submitted an abstract, but others will be considered as well.

INMD Background

INMD supports research to enhance health in relation to diet, digestion, excretion, and metabolism; and to address causes, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support system, and palliation for a wide range of conditions and problems associated with hormone, digestive system, and liver function. In 2001, INMD identified Obesity and Healthy Body Weight as our focus for strategic research funding.
