Dr. Kramer brings a great deal of work experience to the job. The author and co-author of 20 books and monographs, as well as over 250 original articles, Dr. Kramer's systematic review of the evidence on the optimal duration of exclusive breastfeeding led directly to new infant feeding recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Health Assembly. His current areas of research interest include the causes and prevention of preterm birth and intrauterine growth restriction, the determinants of fetal and infant mortality, and the health effects of breastfeeding. An MRC/CIHR Distinguished Investigator (1997-2002) and Senior Investigator (2002 - present), Dr. Kramer served as Chair of IHDCYH's Institute Advisory Board for its first two years, as well as various other academic panels and committees in Canada and in the United States.
