Women's Health Strategy

The Health Canada's Women's Health Strategy guides Health Canada's work and ensures that the situations and needs of women are taken into account in the department's program and policy development.

When released, the Strategy was building upon important work that had already been undertaken by Health Canada in the area of women's health, such as the establishment of the Centres of Excellence for Women's Health and support for the Canadian Women's Health Network. The Strategy supports the global recognition that the health system should accord women and men equal "treatment" in every sense of the word, and should strive to attain equitable outcomes for both. It provides Health Canada with a framework to meet these challenges by conforming with the Next link will open in a new window Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women; and with the principles of Next link will open in a new window Beijing Platform for Action [English only] and the Next link will open in a new window Federal Plan for Gender Equality.
