Announcement: ICRH Strategic Outlook
Over the past many months, the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) has engaged in various planning exercises including a national Partners Forum, strategic planning exercises by the ICRH Advisory Board, and numerous visits and meetings across the country to hear from the research community. During this time period, we have consulted many individuals, scientists and nonscientists, as well as many representatives from health research organizations regarding strategic directions and the development of an integrative health research agenda.
Based on feedback received thus far, ICRH, together with the other 12 CIHR Institutes, prepared brief Strategic Outlooks for submission to Governing Council in late October 2001. The Outlook summaries were written under the framework of the CIHR Strategic Outlook document, which outlines four broad directions for CIHR. All 13 Institutes will be working together to integrate related work in these strategic areas, as well as develop very specific Institute priorities and directions for their respective communities.
The ICRH Strategic Outlook is not a strategic plan for the Institute, but instead serves as a sketch and framework for thinking about strategic and operational planning for the ICRH. Moreover, up-coming planning sessions, particularly the New Frontiers Program Symposium session (February) and Partners' Forum II (April) will greatly shape the Institute's strategic and operational plans to be finalized later in the spring. ICRH will continue to consult with all stakeholders during the development of these plans.
We are, by way of this message, inviting, encouraging and welcoming your reflections on and advice regarding the ICRH Strategic Outlook document. Any additional strategies you feel would strengthen ICRH and the heart, lung, blood vessel, stroke, blood, sleep, and critical care research communities-at-large are welcomed. Please direct any of your comments and/or suggestions to Ms. Salima Harji, Project Officer (e-mail: sharji@mrl.ubc.ca, fax: 604-806-8935).
