Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund
In its 2003
budget, the
Government of Canada announced the creation of the Municipal Rural
Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) to support municipal infrastructure projects
aimed at improving quality of life among citizens, quality of the environment
and fostering economic growth within communities.
The Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund is jointly administered by Canada
Economic Development and Quebec's Ministère des Affaires municipales et des
Régions, which is the lead player in the program. Total projects will amount $576 million in investments.
MRIF specifications
- Start date: July 18, 2005
- End date: March 31, 2012
- The federal funding of $192 millions broken down as follows:
- $140.0 million for green municipal infrastructure (drinking water and
wastewater)
- $2 million for the development of knowledge
- $50 million for local or regional development support infrastructure
