Assistant Commissioner Michel Séguin

A/Cmmr. Michel Séguin

Michel Séguin was born in Mattawa, Ontario. Following graduation from École secondaire Algonquin in North Bay, Ontario, he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in January 1975.

After recruit training, he was posted to Bathurst, New Brunswick where he worked in general policing duties. This was followed by transfers to Neguac and Campbellton County Detachments before going to Moncton General Investigation Section. He then attended l'Université de Moncton as a full time student to complete courses in Business Administration.

Upon completion of university training, Assistant Commissioner Séguin was transferred to Commercial Crime Section in Fredericton. He was then promoted to Corporal in Financial Services in 1988 and then to Sergeant in 1990 as the Non-commissioned Officer in charge of Edmundston Drug Section. He was transferred to Ottawa in 1992 where he was commissioned to the rank of Inspector as the Officer in Charge of Compensation Policy and Systems Section. He was then assigned to a project examining Separate Employer Status for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

In 1997, Assistant Commissioner Séguin was promoted to Superintendent and assumed the responsibilities of Criminal Operations Officer for New Brunswick. He was subsequently promoted to Chief Superintendent in that position in 1999 until his transfer to Ottawa in 2000, as the Assistant Chief Human Resources Officer. In March 2003, Assistant Commissioner Séguin was seconded to the Department of the Solicitor General until October 2003, when he was appointed Ethics and Integrity Advisor. He was appointed Commanding Officer "O" Division on November 4, 2004.

Assistant Commissioner Séguin has been awarded the Canada 125 Medal, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal Bronze Clasp, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and is a serving member of the Order of St. John. Assistant Commissioner Séguin enjoys reading biographies and history.
