Knowledge Translation

Ian GrahamIan Graham is Vice-President of Knowledge Translation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Graham is Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, University of Ottawa and Senior Social Scientist and Associate Director of the Clinical Epidemiology Program of the Ottawa Health Research Institute. He holds cross-appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology & Community Medicine and is an adjunct professor in the School of Nursing at Queen's University. Dr. Graham obtained a PhD in medical sociology from McGill University, a Master of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from McGill University. Dr. Graham's research has largely focused on knowledge translation (the process of research use) and conducting applied research on strategies to increase implementation of research findings and evidence-based practice. Specific projects have related to the adaptation, implementation, and quality appraisal of clinical practice guidelines, as well as the uptake of guidelines and decision support tools by practitioners.

Research

Pierre Chartrand joined CIHR in September 2006.

Dr. Chartrand will work closely with CIHR's 13 Institutes and the research community in order to address the observations from the International Review Panel who conducted CIHR's first external review.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Chartrand was the Chief Executive Officer of Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer, and a Full Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cellular Biology in the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Montréal. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Chartrand has also been a member of the board of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ). He organized and led the FRSQ's Cancer Network, which became, under his leadership, one of the strongest networks of the FRSQ.

Dr. Chartrand holds a PhD in microbiology and immunology from the Université de Montréal and went on to do postdoctoral training at the Institute of Virology of the Medical Research Council of Great Britain before setting up his laboratory at the Université de Sherbrooke. Dr. Chartrand later served as Director of the Institut du cancer de Montréal.
