How to apply to become an IAB member

CIHR is renewing the membership of its thirteen Institute Advisory Boards (IABs). A turnover of about 40 of the more than 200 members is expected. Information on the selection criteria and composition of the IABs is available under IAB Selection Criteria

Institute Advisory Board Member Application and Guidelines

Important: Online applications for the fourth annual cycle of IAB renewal all thirteen Institute Advisory Boards (IABs) can be submitted from February 8 - March 22, 2006..

How to apply electronically
The online application procedure involves the following steps:

  1. Logon to the application form through the new CIHR Volunteer Logon Page using your CIHR PIN (Personal Identification Number). Applicants new to CIHR must register to obtain a PIN and password as it is required to access CIHR Web forms.
  2. Please note: A Privacy Notice Statement will appear prior to the logon.
  3. Complete and submit the Volunteer Application consisting of the Volunteer Profile Module and the Institute Advisory Board Module. The sections listed can be completed and saved in random order. Common CV users may open a second browser by clicking on the "Common CV" link within the Volunteer Profile Module to copy and paste identical data into this module.

The Application Package consists of:

  1. The Volunteer Application. Before printing out a final copy you must click on the 'Submit' button in order to transfer the information on the application to CIHR's database;
  2. The "Letter of Support" is a CIHR form to be signed by your supervisor and is included as the last page of the printed version of the application. You can save it and send it electronically to your supervisor; and
  3. Your electronic photo (head & shoulders), a short bio-sketch along with your CV or Résumé should be sent by email to iab-cci@cihr-irsc.gc.ca. Please note that we accept any version of your CV, not just the Common CV used for research applications.

Alternatives for submitting your application
If you prefer an alternative to the electronic application form, you may print and complete the application [ PDF (17 KB) | Help ] and the letter of support [ PDF ( 6 KB) | Help] and send it either by fax (613-954-1800) or by mail (IAB Membership Office, CIHR Governance Unit, 160 Elgin Street, Room 97, Address Locator 4809A, Ottawa, ON K1A 0W9).
