Howard Hughes Medical School's 2006 Grants for Biomedical Research

Through its international program, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is currently extending grants to Canadian and Latin American biomedical researchers who have made significant scientific contributions in the field of basic biological processes and disease mechanisms.

Research involving clinical trials, health education, and delivery of health care or health services will NOT be eligible fields.

Applicants must have a full-time appointment at a nonprofit scientific research organization.

Approximately 40 grants will be awarded. Each grant is for a five year term, from early-2007 to the end of 2011, and will provide between $50,000 and $100,000 annually.

A portion of each grant provides support to the scientific environment in which these scientists work through funding of shared resources.

Evaluation of the applications will be based on the scientific merit of the proposal, the applicant's record of research accomplishments, and his or her promise for future contributions. Consideration will also be given to the impact of the grant on the scientist, the laboratory, the institution, and the broader research community.

The application deadline is September 14, 2005.
