Dr. Stewart addressed Canadian Science Writers' Association Conference

On June 19, Dr. Miriam Stewart, Scientific Director for the Institute of Gender and Health, as an invited keynote speaker at the Canadian Science Writers' Association (CSWA) 34th Annual Conference in Jasper, Alberta, discussed her vision for science in the 21st century in Canada.  Dr. Peter Hackett, Alberta Ingenuity, Dr. Kevin Keough, Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, and John McDougall, Alberta Research Council also participated in the discussion, which was moderated by Dr. Marvin Fritzler, Alberta Science and Research Authority.

During her presentation entitled "Health Sciences in the 21st Century: Breaking Down Boundaries, Borders and Barriers", Dr. Stewart highlighted some key CIHR and IGH initiatives, which are helping push the frontiers of science and knowledge translation nationally and globally (examples include Reducing Health Disparities for Vulnerable Populations) and to foster the role of women in scientific careers. She profiled the timeliness of interdisciplinary and multi-site research teams, knowledge translation and uptake, and national and international partnerships. CIHR is a supporter of this annual event which highlights current science and technology issues, and brings together scientists, engineers, journalists, educators, youth and the general public.
