Don Head was appointed Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) on December 2, 2002. Since October 24, 2005 he has also assumed responsibility for the Aboriginal Initiatives Directorate and for the Incident Investigation Branch.
Mr. Head began his career with CSC in 1978 as a Correctional Officer at William Head Institution. He subsequently worked at Edmonton and Kent Institutions as Senior Correctional Officer and Correctional Supervisor. He held various other positions in Regional Headquarters, the Pacific Region, National Headquarters, and Regional Headquarters, Ontario Region including Senior Project Manager and Regional Administrator. He worked at Joyceville Institution between 1993 and 1995 as the Assistant Warden.
In 1995, he joined the Yukon Justice Department as Superintendent of the Whitehorse Correctional Centre and then as the Director of Territorial Probation and Correctional Services. In 1998, he moved to the Saskatchewan Department of Corrections and Public Safety as Assistant Deputy Minister, responsible for their probation and correctional services.
Mr. Head returned to CSC from the Saskatchewan provincial government in 2002. |
