Office of the Chief Scientist

The Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) provides leadership for and promotes awareness of Health Canada 's science and research. It encourages and supports the science community within and outside Health Canada . This helps to make sure the department has the scientific information that we need to make health-related decisions.

OCS has developed three priorities to help Health Canada perform and use the best science:

  • Science Capability: making sure we have access to the best science possible ;
  • Science Partnerships: encouraging partnerships to help address our science needs ;
  • Science Advice: making sure the department uses quality science advice when we make policy and regulatory decisions.

Below are just some of the many activities led by OCS:

Visit the Science and Research section of this site for more information on the research and other scientific activities that Health Canada is responsible for or supports.
