Currently, the Métis Nation does not have a Constitution. However, Métis people from throughout the Homeland have consistently expressed their desire to have a Métis Nation Constitution in order to strengthen Métis nationalism and build a stronger and more effective national governance structure. This site maintained by the Métis National Council has been created to provide Métis citizens, from throughout the Homeland, an opportunity to be aware of, updated on, and participate in the Métis Nation's constitutional development process.

 



Métis Nation of Ontario Opposed to Protest Action by Loggers

OTTAWA (Dec 4/06) The Métis Nation of Ontario does not support the logging protest action proposed by a group called Algoma Métis Loggers near Sault Ste Marie. The MNO is not connected with this group, nor does it support their claim the logging can be justified on the basis of a Métis right to harvest. >

 


Justice Within

The Law Commission of Canada recently had their funding eliminated by the federal government. Over the past nine years the Commission advised Parliament on how to improve and modernize Canada’s laws. They also produced an this discussion paper on Indigenous legal traditions. >

The Métis Nation of Ontario Victim Services Prorgram invites you to a presentation on anti-bullying in Métis communities. Join us on November 14/06 (2-4pm) for a teleconference meeting if you live in Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Fort Frances or Kenora. >

Métis Youth Global Adventure
This summer, 11 Métis youth from Ontario spent 14 days in Ecuador doing community service in Otavalo, an Indigenous community. This project was a partnership of MNO Training Initiatives and Canada World Youth. >

Seeking feedback from Ontario Métis
DEADLINE OCT 15/06 - The MNO is holding a number of focus groups to review and provide feedback on the Ministry of Education's Draft Aboriginal Education Policy Framework. We are interested in having Métis educators, teachers, principals, parents and students participate. >

Métis Nation of Ontario hosts National Michif Conference

Christmas comes early for Kashechewan evacuees
The Métis Nation of Ontario and the Ottawa Métis Council recently hosted three traditional moose dinners for the 265 Kashechewan residents who are being housed in Ottawa. During last Thursday's dinner a surprise visitor dropped by to spread some Christmas cheer to those who need it most. >
Queen's Park Louis Riel Day ceremony
On November 16th each year, the Métis Nation hosts Commemorative Ceremonies at locations throughout Ontario and western Canada to honour Louis Riel and acknowledge his contributions to Canada and to his people, the Métis. >
Métis Community Harvest gatherings
From Kenora to the French River, hundreds of Métis across Ontario gathered this weekend to celebrate the culture and exercise their traditional rights.
