How to Apply

STEP 1: Review List of Mentors

The Health Canada researchers who are willing to host a candidate are listed as mentors, along with summaries of their research areas and their email addresses. You should identify your mentor from this list prior to completing your application form. Candidates are encouraged to contact mentors using the Email addresses provided, and to visit mentors' Web sites in order to learn more about potential research opportunities.

STEP 2: Research Project Proposal

The candidate should contact the mentor to develop a project proposal. The project proposal should be approved by the mentor. A maximum of two proposals per candidate will be allowed and these proposals must be with different mentors.

STEP 3: Developing a Research Project Proposal

The candidate must submit a research proposal to the mentor. The proposal should be a maximum of 2500 words plus references and should contain the following information:

  • A clearly stated research hypotheses and objectives;
  • A rationale for the study, including how the proposed work relates to the Health Canada mandate;
  • A description of the proposed methodology, clearly indicating how it would be used to achieve the stated objectives; and
  • A comprehensive literature review that supports the stated objectives, rationale and selected methodology.

STEP 4: Application

In order to apply to this program, the candidate must complete the online application form on or before the deadline.

The candidate must provide a signed consent form from the mentor indicating his/her agreement to host the candidate if successful. To obtain a Consent Form, please contact us directly.

STEP 5: Review of Application Package

The research proposal, along with the CV of the candidate, will be evaluated by an external, multi-disciplinary peer review panel whose report will be provided to the Office of the Chief Scientist. Applicants will be notified of results of the competition as soon as the committee finalizes its recommendations and they are approved by Health Canada management.
