HEALTH HAZARD ALERTVARIOUS BEEF PRODUCTS SOLD FROM CHURCHILL FALLS (LABRADOR) CORPORATION LIMITED MAY CONTAIN E. coli 0157:H7 BACTERIAOTTAWA, July 17, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation Limited are warning the public not to consume various beef products listed below because these products may be contaminated with E.coli 0157:H7 bacteria. The affected products, as listed below, were sold in packages of various weights and "packed on" dates.
These products were sold only from the Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation Limited Grocery store in Churchill Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador, from June 23 to July 16, 2004. The distributor, Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation Limited is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. E.coli 0157:H7 causes serious and potentially life-threatening illness by producing a toxin that can break down the lining of the intestines and damage the kidneys. Food contaminated with the E. coli bacteria will not look or smell spoiled. These products should not be consumed. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. CFIAs Food Safety
