ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED SULPHITES, SESAME SEED, PEANUT, AND SOY IN FAT CHOY BRAND BISCUITSOTTAWA, April 5, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with sensitivities to sulphites and allergies to sesame seed, peanut and/or soy protein not to consume the Fat Choy Brand Biscuits described below. The affected products may contain sulphites, sesame seed, peanut, and soy which are not properly declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites and allergies to sesame seed, peanut and/ or soy protein. The following Fat Choy Brand Biscuits, product of China, are affected by this alert:
The importer, Sun Wah Foods Ltd., Richmond, British Columbia, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products are known to be distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites and allergies to sesame seed, peanut and/ or soy protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
