National Police Services (NPS), a business line of the RCMP, provides services to over 500 Canadian law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. It is renowned for the quality of its expertise and ability to develop and deploy leading edge technologies, while promoting integrated policing. The consistency, high standards, interoperability and availability of NPS information and services ensure that Canada remains one of the safest countries in the world. National Police Services is a global leader in the development of leading edge scientific and identification methodologies and tools to fight crime. Programs are provided through key areas which are committed to meeting the needs of our clients. The success of all operations and policing efforts is contingent upon the integrity, sustainability and excellence of these programs and services. The Forensic Laboratory Services (FLS): conduct scientific analyses of crime scene evidence, present forensic evidence in court, and research and develop new and advanced forensic methodologies. Information and Identification Services (I&IS): develops and implements nationally networked police information systems and technologies in support of investigations and criminal identification. These include the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Forensic Identification Services, and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), which supports front line police agencies in gathering evidence to successfully prosecute persons involved in the illegal movement and criminal use of firearms. The Canadian Police College (CPC): provides advanced and specialized learning and training to Canadian and foreign law enforcement agencies. Priorities:
The National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC): is responsible for the coordination, collaboration and intelligence-gathering to combat the global online sexual exploitation of children. Priorities:
Criminal Intelligence Service Canada (CISC): comprises nine provincial bureaus which ensure the timely exchange of criminal intelligence among CISC member agencies, in support of the national effort to detect, reduce and prevent organized and other serious crime affecting Canada. Priorities:
Technical Operations (TO): provides specialized technical support services, and researches and develops technical investigative tools. It also provides physical and information technology security services, explosives research and development, and criminal behavioural investigative analysis. Priorities:
Chief Information Officer Sector (CIO): is responsible for the RCMP's Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) program including all information necessary to carry out the organization's mandate, as well as the systems used to access, communicate, record, share and manage this information. Canada Firearms Centre: was created to oversee the administration of the Firearms Act and the Canadian Firearms Program. |
