ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED SULPHITES, PEANUTS AND TREE NUTS IN CERTAIN FINA FOODS SNACK PRODUCTSOTTAWA, January 30, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Fina Foods are warning people with sensitivities to sulphites or allergies to peanuts or tree nuts not to consume the products listed below. The affected products may contain sulphites, peanuts and tree nuts which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites or allergies to peanuts or tree nuts. The following Fina Foods "Delicious Spicy Snacks" products, sold in 350 g packages, are affected by this alert:
The manufacturer, Fina Foods, Scarborough, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling these affected products from the marketplace. These affected products are known to have been distributed in Ontario. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites or allergies to peanuts or tree nuts . There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
