ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED SULPHITES IN DRIED LOTUS ROOTSOTTAWA, July 2, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with sensitivities to sulphites not to consume the Dried Lotus Roots product described below as it may contain sulphites which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites. The affected product, Dried Lotus Roots, is sold in a 200 g package bearing UPC 4 891626 000439. The importer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The affected product has been distributed in Ontario. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
