Sammy Hong's Holdings Receives $7,500 Fine for Violating the Food and Drugs ActOn May 19, 2004, Sammy Hongs Holdings Ltd. (doing business as Sammys Food Market) entered a guilty plea in Victoria Provincial Court to two counts of violating the Food and Drugs Act and was fined at total of $7,500. On Dec. 11, 2003, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency conducted an inspection of Sammys Food Market in Victoria after receiving a consumer complaint. The company was fined $2,500 for mis-labelling pork chops by placing a new "Best Before" sticker over the old "Best Before" label. The company was also fined $5,000 for selling pork spareribs which were thawed and had been previously frozen, without displaying a "Previously Frozen" sticker on the package. The Food and Drugs Act prohibits these kinds of activities.
