ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED PEANUT IN SUN BIRD BRAND THAI NOODLES ORIENTAL STYLE SEASONING MIXOTTAWA, February 6, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to peanut protein not to consume Sun Bird brand Thai Noodles Oriental Style Seasoning Mix. The affected product may contain peanut which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to peanut protein. The affected product, Sun Bird brand Thai Noodles Oriental Style Seasoning Mix, made in U.S.A., is sold in a 24.8 g package bearing UPC 0 74880 07026 2. Only the lot code 15303 B4 of the product which does not declare peanut on the label is affected by this alert. The importer, Tree of Life/Gourmet Awards Foods Canada Inc., Mississauga, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The affected product is known to be distributed nationally. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to peanut protein. There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
