Political Activities in the Federal Public Service

The Working Group on Political Activities in the Federal Public Service works to assist the Public Service Commission (PSC) in determining how best to exercise its responsibilities in the area of political activities. Members review issues and proposals brought forward by the PSC and provide recommendations, comments and feedback related to:

  • possible limitations on political activities of public servants (i.e. political activities that are deemed to impair ability of employees to perform their duties in a politically impartial manner);
  • requests for permission and leave of absence to seek nomination and be a candidate in municipal, federal, provincial or territorial elections and restrictions imposed on these employees; and
  • investigations of allegations of improper political activity by an employee or deputy head.
