Service-Wide Committee on Occupational Health and Safety

Current Committee Activities

The role of the Service-Wide Committee on Occupational Health and Safety (SWC) is to participate in the development and review of all Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat policies, programs and issues relating to occupational health and safety. The SWC provides advice and leadership to the departmental or agency policy committees.

Committee Advisor:  Rachelle.Dean@njc-cnm.gc.ca

Concluded and Upcoming Items:

  • The Service Wide Committee proposed to the Executive Committee the use of a Program Coordinator to undertake a review of existing training for Health and Safety Officers, an analysis of the results and the establishment of best practices for publication to the H&S community, as the scope of the research effort is deemed to be extensive, and far exceeds the Committee's ability to produce a quality product in a timely manner.
  • The Executive Committee agreed to the pilot project for up to one year subject to availability of funding. The General Secretary in consultation with the Co-Chairs of the SWOHS would do the screening and selection process of the Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator would be provided general leadership and guidance by a SWOHS advisory team. The Coordinator would be reporting to the General Secretary and could be assigned other projects during the period.
  • Outstanding items: staffing the Program Coordinator position.

Next meeting: To be determined.
