Self-Assessment Questionnaire

Before you apply to become a regular member (police officer) of the RCMP, we suggest you complete the following self-assessment questionnaire. It will give you a better idea of what is required, and what we expect, of a regular member of the RCMP.

1. Are you a Canadian citizen?

2. Are you willing to pledge allegiance to Canada?

3. Are you willing to be posted anywhere in Canada?

4. Are you emotionally ready to leave your friends and family for a career that requires you to be transferred anywhere in Canada?

5. Are you at least 18 years of age?
 
6. Do you possess an unrestricted Canadian Driver License with all privileges?

7. Do you possess proper driving skills and extensive driving experience?

8. Could you meet the minimum vision standards?

9. Do you have a high school diploma or equivalency?

10. Are you financially ready to attend the 24-week cadet training program?

11. Are you willing to live in dormitory-style accommodation while attending the cadet training program?

12. Are you physically ready for the 24 weeks of rigorous training at the RCMP Academy?

13. Do you have computer knowledge and good writing skills?

14. Are you willing to work different shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays?

15. Are you able to meet the RCMP’s physical ability requirement?

16. Do you have a good credit rating?

17. Are you prepared to carry a firearm and to use it or any other necessary physical force in the performance of your duties?

18. Do you consider yourself a responsible person?

19. Are you scrupulously honest and do you respect the law in both behaviour and attitude?

20. Do you interact sensitively and respectfully with others?

21. Do you enjoy working in a team environment?

22. Are you sincerely interested in the opinions of others?

23. Are you committed to achieving goals?

24. Are you sincerely interested in helping people?

25. Are you comfortable working with people from other cultural backgrounds?

26. Can you adjust your behaviour to remain productive through periods of ambiguity, uncertainty and stress?

27. Are you willing to perform the normal range of job expectations and requirements?

28. Are you able to take initiative and enthusiastically strive to do an outstanding job?

29. Are you able to work with others to identify their needs?
