Dawn MetallicMETALLIC, Dawn
Rank: Constable
Joined the RCMP: 2000
Current Posting: Lester B. Pearson Airport, Ontario

I was an Auxiliary Constable for the Listuguj Police Department from August 1998 to June 2000. Listuguj, Quebec is a Mig'maq community where I was born and raised. Policing has always interested me because my brother-in-law was a Tribal Police Officer in my community. I always felt the need to help people and I was comfortable in any social environment. I was an Aboriginal Youth Training Program - RCMP Summer Student. This sparked in me an interest in becoming a police officer.

I have been an RCMP officer since December 2000. After graduating from Depot, I was posted to Annapolis Detachment in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia and in March 2003, I was transferred to Toronto Airport Detachment where my present duty is investigations.

I chose the RCMP because I could do police work anywhere in Canada and felt that they were the #1 police force in Canada. The red serge also attracted me. I have many career goals to achieve. I have the guidance from co-workers and supervisors to reach them in the future.

WattWATT, Judi
Rank: Corporal
Joined the RCMP: 1993
Current Posting: Manitoba

I was engaged out of Red Deer, Alberta in March, 1993, while working as an ambulance attendant in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.

At the age of five (5), I knew that I wanted to join the RCMP to be a dog handler after seeing the dogs in training in Innisfail, Alberta. I also had the opportunity to attend Depot with my family in1974, and when I saw the first female troop in training I knew for sure that I would make it to Regina one day. I thought that the RCMP would be a great job due to the chance to live in new places and meet new people.

Today, I am working as a supervisor in a small community in Manitoba. I’ve been with the RCMP for 12 1/2 years, of which seven were in General Duty in Nanaimo, BC; two were with the Nanaimo Police Dog section with Police Service Dog "Boss"; 1 1/2 years in the North Vancouver Police Dog Section; and, 10 months in the Dauphin, Manitoba Police Dog section.

The public is always in awe every time a group of Mounties march down the road and I‘ve had numerous opportunities to represent the RCMP in red serge, and as a female dog handler. The best moments I have had in the RCMP are: my graduation from Depot, my first opportunity to stand at attention and salute the flag while ‘O Canada’ was playing, standing with veterans on Remembrance Day, graduation with a pup I had raised to become a member of the Police Dog Section, the day that dog saved members lives, and another, when he saved mine.

BowenBOWEN, Angelina
Rank: Constable
Joined the RCMP: 2002
Current Posting: Chilliwack, British Columbia

I've been a General Duty member for two and half years. I have submitted my name to be a First Nation member for our area in the Fall.

I'm a single mother of two, adopting a third, and I’ve always wanted to be a member of the RCMP. I am a product of foster care, and it was a RCMP officer in Surrey, BC, who assisted the Ministry to remove me from a foster home. He told me that I'd be okay. I knew from that point on that this was what I wanted to be. All of my choices in life were reflected on my goal.

I am excited about my future, and I am pleased with the support from my supervisors who allow me to work with the Aboriginal Community and their youth.

Angela RodricksRODRICKS, Angela
Rank: Corporal
Joined the RCMP: 1992
Current Posting: Public Complaints Advisor, British Columbia

I grew up in Calgary Alberta. I had a few role models as police officers growing up and they were always positive and enthusiastic. They also explained to me that policing wasn't about catching the "bad guy" but about making a difference in their own way, whatever they were doing. Because of this early contact, I then volunteered with the Calgary Police to do security for the 1988 Winter Olympics and really enjoyed it.

After finishing university, I applied and here I am still enjoying myself. I chose the RCMP in the end because it offered the most opportunity and variety to become involved in different things.

HaineyHAINEY, Jean
Rank: Constable
Joined the RCMP: 1998
Current Posting: Recruiting, Ottawa, Ontario

I am from Montréal, Québec and I began my career in New-Brunswick where I worked for 6 years in 3 different detachments; Petitcodiac, National Park Fundy/Hillsborough and Shediac before I was transferred to Ottawa. I discovered the RCMP at the age of 16 at a police environment sensitization program. At that time, I knew I wanted this career and in this organization.

Being a member of the RCMP gives a feeling of belonging and pride. Since joining the RCMP, I have experienced numerous rewarding experiences and I have had the opportunity to develop my abilities. The RCMP offers a wide range of possibilities.

I joined the RCMP on the 26th of April, 1988 from Montréal, Québec. Specifically, the RCMP offers a very diverse range of opportunities, not only in the types of duties available but in the many locations in which to serve.

My past postings include, General Duty policing, Nova Scotia; Drug Enforcement, RCMP Training Academy (Applied Police Sciences Facilitator and Fitness Instructor), Saskatchewan; Division Recruiting NCO, Nova Scotia and presently Human Resources in Ontario.
