Training Academy

All successful applicants are required to attend the RCMP training academy — referred to as Depot — in Regina, Saskatchewan. On arrival you will be assigned to a troop of 30 cadets. As a cadet, you’ll take part in the Cadet Training Program (CTP), a 24-week police program that integrates a variety of police disciplines into community orientated scenarios including theory and skills application.

Through adult learning practices and scenario-based training, the CTP will give you a solid understanding of community policing. The program takes a hands-on problem-solving approach by implementing the Problem Solving Model, CAPRA (Clients, Acquiring and analyzing information, Partnerships, Response and Assessment). The model requires you to focus on the client’s perspective in any given situation.

The RCMP covers the following expenses: travel to Depot, uniform, training courses, room and board. You will be required to pay for everything else, (e.g. graduation fund, personal expenses, school supplies, shoe polish, dry cleaning, etc.). On average, your expenses total $4,600 over the twenty-four week training period.

The Cadet Training Handbook provides detailed information about the training program and relocation (transfer to your first posting).
