CID provides a national program for the management of criminal information and intelligence which allows the RCMP to detect and prevent crime having an organized, serious or national security dimension in Canada, or internationally as it affects Canada.

Intelligence work, like community policing, concentrates on solving problems by illuminating the real issues affecting our ability to deliver effective enforcement. Complex problems require multi-disciplinary teams and technologies that bring together various skills in investigations, negotiations, inter-agency cooperation, and work planning and coordination.

The Criminal Intelligence Directorate plays a pivotal role in the organizational implementation and decision-making processes with special regard to criminal operations and criminal extremism.

In carrying out its work, CID operates 6 major program areas.

National Security Investigations Branch
NSIB is responsible for the assessment and monitoring of all criminal investigations relative to national security.

Criminal Organizations Branch
COB is responsible for the assessment, monitoring and coordination of all criminal investigations related to organized crime or other serious criminal activities.

Criminal Analysis Branch
CAB employs the intelligence process to provide strategic and tactical analysis to all levels of the organization as well as to Criminal Intelligence Service Canada (CISC).

National Operations Centre
NOC provides a fully secure and integrated command and control centre for centralized monitoring and coordination during critical incident situations.

Critical Incident Program
CIP is responsible for dealing with issues across the country relating to members involved in critical incident command, crisis negotiation and major case management.

Public Order Program
POP works to support RCMP Divisions in their public order responsibilities by sharing intelligence and best practices on public order issues, setting standards and establishing quality assurance and risk assessment procedures.
