Tobacco Control Programme
The Tobacco Control Programme (TCP) regulates the manufacture, sale, labelling and promotion of tobacco products and develops and implements initiatives to reduce or prevent the harm associated with tobacco use. The goals of the Federal Tobacco Control Strategy (2001-2111) are to:
- reduce smoking prevalence rate to 20%;
- decrease number of cigarettes sold annually by 30%;
- increase compliance with sales-to-youth laws to 80%;
- reduce second-hand smoke in public places;
- explore ways to reduce tobacco toxicity.
