Make a Difference

When you watch television, play video games or search the internet, you'll find that it's obvious that violence is very prevalent in our world today. In my opinion, violence was not dealt with in the past and was even encouraged at times and now because of increased access to resources, violence has been able to grow rapidly. This is why I feel that Manifesto 2000 is an excellent idea.
Manifesto 2000 was developed by the Canadian Commission for UNESCO to create achievable goals for Canadians during the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World. In Manifesto 2000 there are 6 points:
- Respect all life
- Reject violence
- Share with others
- Listen to understand
- Preserve the planet
- Rediscover solidarity
All these points are great and I really feel that they will reduce violence, but they have to be established by someone. I feel we have to be the generation to take that stand, not only among ourselves, but among people who are younger than us. This is why I feel it is very important to volunteer, especially with younger people. We can make a difference.
Volunteering is the most rewarding thing to do and you are given a chance to make a difference. You can make a difference by simply showing someone that violence is not necessary, nor is it accepted. You can make a difference by building the 6 points of Manifesto 2000 into your everyday life by volunteering.
So, I challenge you to think about Manifesto 2000 and try to make at least one of the points part of your life. Make a difference in your world!
