Buying Christmas Gifts on a Budget
December 2004
By Jasmine
This little guy is familiar and so is the song he is associated with. I don't know about you but the constant "rum-tum-tums" of the little drummer boy blaring in the department store, while sticky fingered children whine about wanting this and that, kind of make me want to just forget about Christmas and all its hassle.
As most of us are students, it is hard to keep up with all the expensive Christmas wish lists that family and friends have. We have our younger siblings (some of us are lucky) and it's Barbie© this and Bratz© dolls that, and this new car or new computer game... blah, blah, blah. Let's not forget our parents; could they make it any harder? "Oh, don't worry about us. Just make sure you are ok." Like that couldn't be more of a warning sign for "the present better be the best, or you're disowned!" Then, some of us are the luckiest (ha) because we have that special someone in our lives. Yes, I'm talking about boyfriends and girlfriends. Does, "I'll like whatever you get me honey," sound familiar? Tread lightly on this one. I would opt to go with my simple solution; gift certificates. That way they can get whatever they want and you aren't in the dog house for Christmas.
When I shop, I am thankful to whoever invented the gift certificate. It's great and people don't get gifts they don't like. Although, if you are someone who is looking for a more personal touch and don't like the versatility of a gift certificate, then I would suggest buying a bunch of little gifts for someone and putting them together in a nice bag or basket. I even like to buy lots of cookie mix and bake them up for presents. Remember that Christmas is about spending time with your family.
