Plant Products


This section of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website provides information about the Plant Products Directorate which is responsible for the design of programs related to plant health and food products derived from plants.

Food of Plant Origin Division

The Food of Plant Origin Division's programs set inspection requirements for federally registered processing establishments and imported products. Regulated products include fresh fruits and vegetables, processed fruits and vegetables and maple products.

Plant Health Division

The Plant Health Division's programs are responsible for preventing the importation, exportation and spread of plant pests of quarantine significance and, when necessary, controlling and eradicating plant pests in Canada.

Plant Production Division

The Plant Production Division's programs are responsible for protecting the quality of agricultural production inputs by regulating products like fertilizers, seeds and protecting the intellectual property of plant breeders.

Plant Biosafety Office

The Plant Biosafety Office is responsible for the regulation of plants with novel traits (PNTs) in Canada in regards to environmental safety.
