Newsroom > Food Recalls and Allergy Alerts HEALTH HAZARD ALERTPASTEURIZED GEISSBERGER CIDER MILL BRAND APPLE CIDER PRODUCTS MAY BE CONTAMINATED WITH LEADOTTAWA, December 8, 2006 — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Geissberger Cider Mill are warning the public not to consume the pasteurized Geissberger Cider Mill brand apple cider products described below because these products may be contaminated with lead. All unpasteurized Geissberger Cider Mill brand cider products are not affected. The following pasteurized Geissberger Cider Mill brand apple cider products are affected by this alert.
The affected products were sold at various craft shows and farm gate sales in Ontario during the month of November 2006. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Continued exposure to high levels of lead can cause damage to the central nervous system, kidneys, and blood. Children are particularly at risk. The producer, Geissberger Cider Mill, located in Hampton, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
