You wake before dawn, gather your equipment, and head off to the rink. The recently flooded ice glistens under the florescent lights. For hours you practice, trying to get that perfect, game-winning shot. It's the all-Canadian moment. The early morning practice, the Tim Horton's stop, and the freezing cold. But this isn't hockey we're talking about. It's curling. The sport of Canada's future.
Why, you ask, is curling Canada's next greatest phenomenon? "Why shouldn't it be" is the question that you should be asking. Curling is the sport that has everything. You get exercise, you get to release energy, meet new people, and try something different. In comparison to the commonplace sport of hockey, curling is a hidden gem. Besides, in what other sport do you get to socialize during the game?
Curling is already well on the way to becoming the sport of Canada's future. Only a few months ago, the world's first curling movie, Men with Brooms was released. Let's just say that Mighty Ducks had nothing on this masterpiece!
So the next time you have the desire to feel the rush of the wind in your face when you push out of the hack, think of the next great frozen game: curling.
