5th Annual Senate-Veterans Affairs Canada Ceremony of Remembrance
Being a teenager growing up in Canada in the twenty-first century, it is easy to forget that not all generations of Canadians have been so fortunate as ours. We our gently introduced to the thought of those before us sacrificing their live's for freedom and peace through remembrance day ceremonies and classes in social studies and history. However, we can never really can grasp the horror and loss that so many Canadians, children like us, experienced. We struggle with our ignorance, struggle with a sense of guilt. We take all we have for granted. We don't know how it feels to have everything close to us torn from our lives and have no real sense of the sacrifice that so many Canadians were intimate with. It is for all this that we must honour and remember those who fell for our future. Their gift to us is great, and our appreciation must be plentiful. I felt both honoured and thankful that I had the opportunity to attend the 5th Annual Senate-Veterans Affairs Canada Ceremony of Remembrance. This ceremony drew me closer to my country's past and helped me to understand the importance of Remembering our Past, Preserving our Future. I sincerely thank those involved in the ceremony for allowing me the opportunity to connect with Canada's history and to represent the future that so many Canadian's gave their lives for.
