Paul Martin Represents Canada's Future
February 28, 2003
by Hugo - Québec
The federal political scene will be very active in 2003. The leaders of several federal political parties have announced their departures, including Jean Chrétien, who will soon celebrate his 40th year in public life. The race to lead the Liberal Party of Canada will heat up over the coming months and culminate next November.
So far, the only candidate who has clearly announced his intention to run for the party leadership is Paul Martin, whom many consider to be the best Minister of Finance that Canada has ever had. Although Jean Chrétien ordered ministers not to launch leadership campaigns while still in Cabinet, some leadership hopefuls are doing nothing to squelch the rumours. The prospective candidates are John Manley, Sheila Copps and Allan Rock. Mr. Rock will have a hard time proving to Canadians that he is a good manager given the exorbitant cost increase for the gun registration program, which he managed while Minister of Justice. Paul Martin is without a doubt the best candidate to lead Canada at the start of this new century. He has the most international credibility; let's not forget that he was the first chairperson of the G-20. I had the opportunity to hear Mr. Martin answer students' questions at my college last fall. One of his great strengths is definitely his ability to listen to and respect other people. His managerial skills are also widely recognized. I am certain that Paul Martin will be one of Canada's greatest prime ministers.
Paul Martin represents Canada's future. He will be able to transform his party and the country, from coast to coast, and ensure that Canada takes its rightful place on the world stage.
