Official languages

In the Public Service of Canada, positions require the knowledge of French, English or both. When knowledge of both languages is required, the position is identified as "bilingual." Be careful to check before applying!

You will see language requirements shown by letters that define the level of bilingualism of the position to be filled. If you apply for a job that requires knowledge of both languages, there will be a test later on to check your understanding of the written language, writing ability and oral interaction. If you want to know more about language requirements, go to www.jobs-emplois.gc.ca

Foreign diplomas/degrees

If you have earned a foreign credential, you should obtain proof of Canadian equivalency. You will have to produce this document when called for interviews. Not having it could affect the status of your job application.

If you need proof of equivalency, the site of the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) provides some useful information on the procedure to follow.
