Drinking and Driving: Everyone loses!

January 2005
By: Jasmine

Drinking and driving, everyone knows they don't mix but why are people doing it? Is it fun to endanger your own life and the lives of your passengers? In Canada, one in every 8 deaths and injuries in road crashes is a teenager. Recent statistics tell us that 2 out of 5 people who die in crashes involving alcohol are 25 years of age and under. More teenagers die each year as a result of road crashes than any other cause of death. -MADD Canada

I think that drinking and driving isn't very smart. I believe that although there is tons of information on drinking and driving, there needs to be more realistic things or more serious things shown because people are not getting the point. Once when I was in Montreal, I watched a commercial on drinking and driving and I was shocked at the bluntness of it, but it worked for me. The commercial started out with a man who had crashed, a picture of them lying dead in the car. They rewound the commercial and showed how he ended up in the accident, with the finishing statement as "Don't drink and drive".

In summary, I am not saying not to drink but just to be smart about it and plan ahead. Like the every popular phrase, "Drinking and driving don't mix"
