How to Organize Your Own Charity Fundraiser

January 2005
By: Jaypee

It's a new year... and we have new people to meet, new things we plan to do. The New Year Resolutions that we never seem to get around to are back: losing weight, eating less chocolate, stopping smoking, maybe even being more serious in school. All these resolutions are for our own personal interest and satisfaction, but what if we did something for someone else instead?

During this new year, try to get involved with a charity or a foundation that aims to help others help themselves. There are millions of underprivileged people who need your help and it would mean so much to them if even just an hour of your time is devoted to their cause. To get you started off, here are simple steps to set-up your own fundraiser:

Create a simple action plan that entails everything you plan to do.

A huge thing is organization, and if you are organized, it is almost impossible that anything will go wrong with your plan.

Inquire for a venue.

You can't have a fundraiser if you don't have a place to have it! Also, arrange when the event would be and at what time.

Set up your Guest List.

Invite those who would be interested in giving their time for a good cause. Create an invitation or a ticket that can be mailed out to your guests.

There's nothing like good entertainment and an enjoyable experience.

Remember, you want your guests to have fun so call a local entertainer (like a dance group or a clown for the kids) and prepare a program that guests will enjoy.

Organize any other details.

Anything like decorations for your venue and/or catering must be completed. Also, an added incentive for guests to donate are raffle prizes. Look around the community and approach organizations that would be willing to donate prizes for your fundraiser.

Before the event, choose a charity.

Choose a charity that you have a personal experience with or an organization that you believe needs the most help. No matter what dollar amount you manage to come up with, I'm sure that the organization would be ecstatic.

Just have fun! It's always great when you do something that you love and don't feel like you're forced to do it. Just think about all the people who will receive your help. It could change lives. And don't be afraid to try organizing your own charity fundraiser. Team up with a group of friends and make it even more fun! There are so many possibilities and all you need is a good work ethic, a creative mind, and a love for helping others. It is possible, so start planning yours today!
