NDSS Description NDSS Description

The National Diabetes Surveillance System (NDSS) is a multi-sectorial initiative of government, non-government agencies, Aboriginal groups and industry who are committed to reducing the incidence and complications of diabetes through leadership in the development, implementation and national co-ordination of provincial, territorial and Aboriginal diabetes surveillance systems.

The NDSS will provide a national, standardized database of Canadian data on diabetes and its complications. This source of data will provide a foundation for effective planning and evaluation of diabetes prevention or control programs.

The activities of the NDSS, and the analytic information generated by the NDSS will enhance public-health professionals' understanding of Canada's diabetes problem. The way the NDSS operates will enhance collaborative, multi-sectoral and multi-jurisdictional public-health research in the area of diabetes.
