Warning of Encore Sales Ltd.'s Silver 10 inch taper candles
OTTAWA - Health Canada is warning Canadians that silver-colored 10-inch (25.4 cm) taper candles, imported by Encore Sales Ltd., Concord, Ontario, L4K 3N7, are a potential flammability hazard. These candles have a bar code showing 0-601207-92335-0 on a white sticker and Made in China displayed on small gold sticker. They are sold at four for $1.00 and were distributed nationally to discount and dollar stores.
These candles have the potential to reignite after they have been extinguished. Lit pieces of the burning candle wick can detach igniting the base or side of the candle and other nearby flammable materials.
Encore Sales Ltd. has stopped importing and selling these candles and has also contacted its retail accounts to remove the products to prevent further consumer sales.
Consumers who have these products are advised to stop using them immediately and either discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
The Department is aware of one incident where the candle ignited a Christmas decoration. No injuries were reported.
Health Canada reminds Canadians that candles, including those used during this festive holiday season, should not be left burning unattended. Candles should be kept away from flammable materials such as Christmas decorations and special care should always be taken around all open flame sources.
