Addressing Allegations of Non-compliance with Research Policies

Non-compliance with Research Policies

CIHR has funding guidelines and policies that set out roles and responsibilities of sponsors, researchers and institutions. In return for CIHR's financial support, institutions and researchers agree to abide by these policies.

The vast majority of researchers do hold themselves to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, professionalism and honesty. However, out of the thousands of researchers funded by CIHR every year, there are always a small handful of cases involving questionable conduct on the part of researchers or institutions. As a major public funding agency, CIHR must respond to allegations of research misconduct and deal with these rare and unfortunate breaches.

If CIHR becomes aware of an alleged breach of research policy, such as breach of ethics, misconduct in research or scholarship, or financial mismanagement of public funds, it will take steps outlined in the CIHR Procedure for Addressing Allegations of Non-compliance with Research Policies to deal with the allegation and, if necessary, apply the financial sanctions available to it under its funding terms and conditions.
