About Us

The Consular Affairs Bureau provides information and assistance services to Canadians living and travelling abroad. These services are clearly established in international law and, more specifically, under the terms of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which Canada and many other nations are signatories.

Who We Are and What We Do
We are committed to providing effective and efficient services throughout the world to all Canadians. Our offices provide a wide variety of services; however, we restrict some services, especially those for which there are adequate alternatives available locally.

Contact Us
Our services are available through our headquarters in Ottawa and our network of offices abroad. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can reach us by telephone, fax, TTY, mail, or e-mail.

Description of Canadian Government Offices Abroad
There are diplomatic and consular offices in over 270 locations in approximately 180 foreign countries. These offices provide different levels of services to Canadians abroad.

Service Standards
We are committed to providing Canadians with effective and efficient services throughout the world.

Consular Fees
In addition to routine and emergency services, consular officers abroad provide specialized services for a fee, including legal and notary services and the transfer of funds.
